Introduction of Desiccant silica gel
Dry silica gel, also known as silica gel desiccant, can absorb up to 40% of its weight in water vapor. This adsorption efficiency is about 35% higher than typical dry clays, making dry silica gel the first choice where weight or efficiency is an important factor. The gel itself is basically a mixture of water and silica, which is the main component of the silica gel pack.
Silicone desiccant packs function by absorbing moisture when there is an excess of it, and releasing some of it when the air is too dry. Silicone bags are technically desiccants – a broader class of materials that absorb moisture. After collecting enough moisture, desiccant bead packs can be regenerated by being heated in the microwave or by being exposed to direct sunshine for a full day.
Silica gel desiccant is a non-toxic, non-flammable material that can be reused after re-drying.
